Hometown is an area featured in Deltarune. It is the game's overworld, and is home to the main characters Kris and Susie, along with the Holidays.

Overview

Hometown is surrounded by a dense forest with golden yellow leaves. The bright coloration implies Deltarune takes place during the fall season. The town's road runs perpendicular from Toriel's House to the Mysterious Bunker. It branches into three east to west streets, with the exit southwest, past the Police Station. There is also a lake northeast of town.

Main Story

Chapter 1

At the start of Chapter 1, Kris is sleeping in their bed. Toriel wakes them, complaining that they will be late for School.

If Kris chooses to go back to bed, they are transported directly to ??????. This is only possible if Chapter 1 was completed at least once.

Once Kris leaves the house, Toriel drives them to School. Kris arrives late, and Alphys mentions a group project, though everyone in class has a partner. Alphys instead assigns Kris with Susie when she enters. As Alphys is about to start the class, she realizes the chalk is missing. She requests Susie and Kris retrieve some from the supply closet. The two inexplicably get locked in the supply closet, and descend into the Dark World.

After the Eastern Fountain in Card Kingdom is sealed, Kris and Susie wake up in the unused classroom. Having spent so long in the Dark World, Kris has to walk home. At home, Toriel has prepared some "butterscotch-cinnamon pie." She informs Kris that it will be ready to eat tomorrow, and that they should not eat all of it.

After going to sleep, in the middle of the night, Kris falls out of bed. They tear their SOUL out, and toss it into the birdcage near their bed. With a wide smile and a red glint in their eye, Kris pulls out a knife, and the Chapter ends.

Chapter 2

In Chapter 2, Toriel barges into Kris's room with a blue-handled knife in an empty pie tin. She accuses Kris of eating the entire pie, then makes a lighthearted joke and informs them it is time for School.

Similar to Chapter 1, Kris can go back to sleep and get transported to Cyber World if Chapter 2 was completed.

Kris is the last student to enter class. They immediately fall asleep and wake up once the class ends. Kris and Susie visit Castle Town, and Kris transfers the Card Kingdom Darkners to Castle Town before they leave. The two go to the Library to start their project, only to find the Computer Lab shrouded in darkness. They leap in and enter Cyber World.

After returning from Cyber World and bringing its denizens to Castle Town, Kris and Susie walk home together. Toriel invites Susie inside, and the two prepare to make a pie. Kris informs and goes to the bathroom to wash their hands. After Kris runs the tap, they pull their SOUL out and trap it within the sink cupboard. Kris then opens the bathroom's window and falls out. Susie and Toriel do not hear this, due to the noise of the running water. When the pie is close to finished, Toriel realizes she left the sugar in the car, and goes to retrieve it. Moments later, Kris returns and reinserts their SOUL back in their body.

Alarmed from her findings outside of the house, Toriel invites Susie to sleep over for the night. Kris and Susie decide to pass the time by watching TV, although the two quickly fall asleep. Some time passes, and Toriel calls the police, reporting that her tires have been slashed. After the officer confirms they will visit, Toriel stays in the living room and reads a book. She later falls asleep, and the lights and TV are off.

In the middle of the night, Kris wakes up and once again rips their SOUL out, this time stashing it in the couch. They leave the door open, turn on the TV, and seemingly focuses on Susie. They then pull out a knife and rip open a Dark Fountain in the middle of the living room. Kris returns their SOUL as they fall back asleep while a black fog obscures the living room.

Chapter 3

Following Undyne's capture by the Roaring Knight, Susie and Kris give foot on chase, however the Knight succeeds in their escape into the underground shelter with Undyne in tow. As Susie desperately tries to get the door open she inadvertently reveals a keypad on the door that can only be open with three specific codes. While Susie walks off unable to do anything further, Kris stays behind and inspects the three entry code fields with the shelter door creaking open to the shelter creaks open. If on the Weird Route, Kris travels to Noelle's house without the Soul, and apologizes to her for the events that happened prior, claiming it was all a terrible prank, that they took Berdly to the hospital, and removes a thorn from her finger asking that she not speak about this conversation publicly.

Chapter 4

Kris is woken up by Toriel who tells them that she made them and Susie breakfast. After getting dressed to go to church Kris can Susie have Susie take a tour of their room, where she will place one of Asriel's awards on their shelf and help clean up a blood stain on their carpet. While attending church service, Kris and Susie asks around the congregation for any clues about the code to the Shelter. Susie believes that Noelle's mother, the mayor, would possibly have something to do with the code, so she and Kris ask Noelle if they can work on their projects at Noelle's house. After agreeing Kris and Susie ditch their church clothes and can explore Hometown. They can re-inspect The Shelter door, and go to QC Diner to enjoy a meal together. Upon going down the alleyway they can find Catty drinking the alleyway milk left behind by Alphys prompting Susie to confess she was the "Mew Mew" cat Alphys believed existed. They can also visit Rudy at the hospital and Berdly at the Library depending on if he was injured on it. The two can also tour the school to briefly talk to Temmie or reenter Castle Town.

Eventually Kris and Susie arrive at Noelle's manor, and tour through the various rooms with Noelle occasionally commenting on past memories or Kris pranking her and playing the piano. After some time passes Noelle will get a call from Berdly asking her out to the festival that causes Susie to throw it away in annoyance while distracted Kris can examine Dess's room for clues. While inspecting Dess's guitar in her room, they discover a shelter code on the inside of it reading 122-, before Kris tears the SOUL out of their body and puts it in a box in a closet. While the SOUL escapes and traverses the house through the vents, Kris drinks chocolate milk in the kitchen as a mysterious voice over the phone tells Kris that Susie must not find the guitar, and a sacrifice taking place next week. Elsewhere the player can find Asgore in the bathroom talking to himself on how he must go "looking again" and makes his way to the mayor's bedroom. If the player follows him they can find Asgore talking to an unknown party and a Black Shard. Upon making its way into the basement, the SOUL trips an electric box causing Susie and Noelle to investigate only to discover the SOUL (who they belive to be a mouse) hiding under an angel doll.

After taking it upstairs and going to the kitchen, the SOUL makes its way back to the guitar but is stopped by Kris who takes it with them into Dess's closet. While Kris attempts to fight off the SOUL before it can touch rte guitar Susie and Noelle enter a long conversation about the past couple days before the SOUL successfully reaches the guitar leading to Kris violently attack it. After Susie nabs it from Kris, she heads downstairs with it along with Noelle, Kris then notifies the mysterious voice on what transpired, and they claim they will "be right over". Shortly after Asgore interrupts Susie playing the guitar and reveals the mayor is on her way inside. Immediately after Mayor Carol Holiday enters and spots Susie with the guitar snatching it away from her and coldy telling her to leave and never speak to Noelle again, after Susie argues back she leaves and tells Carol she'll take Noelle to the festival regardless.

After Asgore is asked to eat outside and Noelle is sent into the kitchen, Kris can attempt to leave next. Doing so will make Carol appear behind them and apologize for what transpired claiming that Kris (and the SOUL) are welcome anytime. Afterward it begins to rain and Kris and Susie find themselves locked out of the Dreemurr residence forcing them to head back to the church. Upon doing so they discover the Knight has made 2 Dark Fountains within the Church, prompting Kris and Susie to enter the first one. After its initial sealing they find the second one created behind a locked door, but before they can open it they look for clues inside Father Alvin Boom's office, discovering a hammer held in a glass case covered in dust. The two realize that it is Gerson Boom's remains and sets back on the table while Susie writes a note for Alvin. In the choir room after finding a Jackolatern costume and briefly talking about her past with piano playing, Susie devises a plant to open her own Dark World to get the code for the Church door. While getting the code from a Darkner fire extinguisher, Kris seals the Dark World, and enter into the Knights final fountain to confront it.

Upon its sealing, the Church is left destroyed and with the two unable to find Toriel or any leads on the Shelter's codes decide to leave. Before Kris' leaves however they can inspect a door where a figure is implied to be hiding in, though they refuse to turn the door knob and exists the Church with Susie. Afterward the two will find it is nightime with every location closed, though the two can still check on the Shelter door and sit by the lake. Upon returning home they find Toriel and Sans drunkenly partying causing Susie to refrain from staying over. Kris then decides to head to bed, but are unable to sleep as Toriel and Sans make too much noise, Kris however hears Susie talking to hersefl outside before leaving. While Kris attempts to run after her, they are called by the mysterious voice on the phone reminding Kris not to forget their promise.

Weird Route

If the Weird Route is continued, Noelle will approach Susie and Kris during church, asking them to come to her house to study. Upon leaving Kris can check on Berdly alone at the hospital and without prompting turns up his heater. They can also further heat him up by switching out his watter bottle with a hot one. After arriving to the Holiday Manor, the house tour occurs as normal although Noelle is called by Carol who says she will be home soon, with both her and Susie telling Kris to go upstairs. Upon discovering the shelter code in Dess's guitar Kris takes out the SOUL and moves to hide it in a drawer temporarily when Noelle approaches them, asking for a moment in her room. Once she leaves, Kris hides the SOUL in a large gift box. The player can then traverse the vents to go to Noelle's room discovering the two engaging in a conversation about last night. As Noelle recounts how Kris came to her house apologizing for their actions earlier in the day and swearing that Berdly will get better, she expresses relief that Kris was themself again and spoke in their usual voice, and also reveals they took out the ThornRing from her finger.

Hearing this the player exists the vent and places themself back into Kris while Noelle's eyes are closed. When Kris tries to cover her mouth and shut down the conversation, the player assumes control, horrifying Noelle. After the player reveals everything that happened the day prior wasn't a dream, they brandish the Thornring and restrains Noelle to reequip it on her. After an unknown amount of times passes, Kris attacks the SOUL in the bathroom in violent fury but is forced to stop once Asgore reveals the Mayor is asking everyone to leave. Kris places the SOUL back in their body and leaves with Susie to head back to the church. At night Kris is called by Carol to confirm if they are taking Noelle to the festival reveal Noelle is looking forward to seeing them there.

Sublocations

Dreemurr house

Main article: Dreemurr HouseToriel's house, the first and last location visited in Chapter 1 and 2, is the home of Kris, Toriel, and formerly Asriel and Asgore. It is the northernmost location in the town. A tidy two-story home, it is surrounded by trees on three sides and has a driveway heading south, where Toriel's red van parks when she is home. A symbol similar to the Delta Rune, with the triangles reversed, appears above the front door.

The front door opens into the living room, a wide-open space with a TV, a book of hymns on a side table, and Chairiel, Toriel's living-room chair. The TV is dusty and seemingly underused, being unplugged in Chapter 1, although it is plugged in at the start of Chapter 2 and used at the end of Chapter 2. A landline house phone hangs on the wall between the Living Room and adjoining Kitchen.

The kitchen features a trash can emitting a floral scent (possibly due to Toriel disposing the flowers given by Asgore at his attempt to reconnect with the family), human- and monster-shaped cookie cutters, a stovetop not quite as clean as the one Toriel uses in Undertale, white fur in the sink drain, and a fridge with a picture of Toriel, Kris, and Asriel on it.

West of the kitchen, a stairway leads to the second floor, while a door leads to the restroom, which is stocked with body spray under the sink, two different shampoos in the shower, and a toilet in which Kris once placed a bath bomb.

Upstairs, a hallway contains a bookcase with several books on snails and one history book by Gerson Boom. Some crayons can be observed in a small table drawer, and a mirror reflects whoever passes it. The locked westernmost door in the hall is presumably Toriel's room, while a stairway to the east leads back down. A cactus stands beside a centrally-placed door leading to the bedroom.

The east side of the Bedroom contains Kris's belongings, while the western side was used by Asriel before he left for university. Between them, a carpet featuring the Delta Rune decorates the floor and a window in the north wall looks out on a beautiful day. On Asriel's side, books are boxed under the computer desk, music CDs and a game console are under the bed, and the drawer's contents change depending on which SAVE file is being used. Trophies line the walls above Asriel's bed, and star-shaped decorations glow in the dark. By contrast, Kris's shelves and walls are bare, their drawer contains only clothes, and the only visible personal belongings are a rusted birdcage in a battered red wagon. At the foot of the bed, a dark stain marks the floor.

Cattenheimer house

Catty's house, home of Catty, Catti, and Dad Cat, is east of the main road, south of Toriel's house, and west of Bratty's house. It cannot be entered in Chapter 1, though cat-related interior decorating can be seen from outside and Catty says their "cat flap is always open" to Kris. An outdoor grill at the side of the house smells of Dad Cat's grilled cat food. Catty and Dad Cat can be found outside the house after school.

Bratty's house

Bratty lives to the east of Catty's house and west of the Ghost House. Eyes can be seen through the windows and scuffling noises sound from within. It cannot be entered in Chapter 1, but Bratty can be found outside the house after school.

Ghost House

The Ghost House, a tilted blue-grey structure whose exterior resembles Napstablook's house from Undertale, is east of Bratty's house and west of Flower King. The house cannot be entered in Chapter 1, and, unlike in Undertale, does not have a pink counterpart beside it. Kris can knock at the door after school; one of the house's inhabitants is home, but does not let them in. By Chapter 2 it is revealed the home is occupied by two ghosts named Nobody and "Mad". While Mad refuses to talk to Kris and accidentally hints they have a crush on Asgore, Nobody will answer and recognize Kris from the other day. Nobody proceeds to ask Kris a favor on if they can bring them some entertainment tomorrow due to the internet being out. By Chapter 4, Kris and Susie can give their TV to Nobody.

Flower King

Main article: Flower King

Flower King, a flower shop owned by Asgore Dreemurr, is located east of the Ghost House and west of the beach path. The eastward road ends in front of the shop and Asgore's truck can be found parked beside it. There is also a hidden door to the east of the shop, though it is blocked by flowers on the other side. The shop can be explored in Chapter 1 after school, but is locked in Chapters 2 and 4, although inspecting behind it in the latter chapter reveals a corkboard with documents scattered on the floor.

Beach path

A dirt path leads eastward from Flower King, past two green metal picnic tables to the lake on the east side of town. After school in Chapter 1, the Royal Guards are taking in the fall air near the picnic tables and Onion can be spoken to if Kris stands on a brown circular spot next to the lake. If standing idly near the lake near the end of Chapter 2, Kris and Susie will sit and watch the view, if Onion was met prior they will reappear and reveal to Kris "the secret" they mentioned prior was that a familiar song was playing deep within the lake and that they were going to investigate it further. By Chapter 4 if standing idly and not speaking Onion, Susie will attempt to do a lake skip throw, otherwise Onion will not appear with Susie commenting they are likely busy today. However, upon heading back to the lake during the rain, they can spot Striped Bird cryptically warning them of something before disappearing. At night returning to the lake Susie reveals she can hear music playing across the lake.

Holiday Manor

Main article: Holiday Manor

The Holiday Manor is the home of Mayor Carol and her husband and children Rudolph,December, and Noelle Holiday. It is the largest property in Hometown located to the west of the main street, behind a large locked gate to which only Carol has the key. While initially inaccessible, the residence cannot be seen or visited in Chapter 1 and 2, Noelle can be found standing at the gate after school if Kris visits Rudy at the Hospital first.

By Chapter 4, the Manor can be explored and is revealed to be outwardly themed white and red and decorated in matching Christmas paraphernalia, with a red sleigh atop the roof, windows matching gifted presents, large trees decorated with ornaments and stars, and Candy cane decorations. The interior contains similar white and brown architecture with various ornaments. The Manor contains Noelle and Dess's respective rooms with the latter containing a code to the shelter hidden inside her guitar.

'Sans

The Grocery Store is east of the central road and west of Sans's house, and is currently run by Sans. It cannot be entered in Chapter 1, but Sans stands outside after school. The exterior resembles Undertale's Grillby's, but with "GRILLBY" crossed out and the final apostrophe and S remaining to start the badly scribbled name "'Sans".

In Chapter 2, the building can be entered. The interior seems to resemble a small convenience store. The store sells various produce, milk, ice cream, cards, magazines, loose eggs, and frozen food. Sans is the only employee working at the store, working as both a cashier and a janitor. Toriel and Asgore are shown to be frequent patrons, to the store, although the latter is implied to frequently buy the store's pickles, free of charge.

Sans's theme; "sans." from Undertale plays, when inside.

Sans's house

Sans and his "little brother" recently moved into the house east of the Grocery Store. Its exterior resembles its Undertale counterpart, though it does not have snow, a pirate flag, or holiday decorations. The door can only be knocked on, and the narration mentions "the distant trousle of bones" in Chapter 1. In Chapter 2, the narration states that "a ..trousle... growing further away..." In Chapter 4 narration states "You hear nary a bone... No rattle, nor trousle, nor xylophone tickle".

Bunny apartments

Two of the town's three brownstone apartment buildings sit side by side to the east of Sans's house, with the alley running up their east side. Shopkeeper's child peers out of a window in the first one, while a connoisseur of knocks refuses to answer the door in the second.

Alley

The alley is northeast, between the bunny and Snowdrake apartments. In it are five trash cans, three of them filled with a variety of flowers, and a pink saucer. On the north wall is a fixed retractable ladder, and graffiti of ICE-E and Everyman.

In Chapter 1, Alphys states that she keeps office hours here after school. She also fills the saucer with milk every day for an unseen cat she named "MewMew."

In Chapter 2, Bratty can be found in this alley. Kris can converse with her to learn about Bratty finding Catty at the beachside, or her opinion of Susie. If Kris inspects the covered trash cans, Bratty becomes possessive of the trash. In Chapter 4 it is revealed Mew Mew is actually Susie covertly drinking the milk while Alphys isn't looking, growing furious discovering Catty found and drank the milk

Snowdrake apartments

The third of the town's four brownstone apartment buildings sits to the east of the alley. Monster Kid and Snowy stand outside it, while Snowy's father is heard from within.

In Chapter 2, knocking on the door of these apartments makes Susie reconfirm with Kris that they are going to their house. Knocking on this door again after interacting with Snowy and Monster Kid at the Mysterious Door results in new dialogue, telling Kris that they were scared by Susie. In Chapter 4 Alphys stands outside of it, lamenting that her milk is being drank by Catty, if interacted with it at night, Susie will solemnly tell Kris that they should just go to their own house.

QC's Diner

The Diner is on a street corner to the east of ICE-E's P"e"zza. It can be visited after school. Boasting a homey atmosphere, it contains three booths and a cafe counter with bar stools. Catti and Waitress Lion are servers. Diner Shopkeeper, who works behind the counter and remembers Kris coming in on Sundays, gives them a Hot Chocolate.

Patrons include Dad Dragon and his family, Fire Elemental and Tentacled Monster, Ice Wolf, and Hat Monster.

ICE-E's P"e"zza

ICE-E's P"e"zza is a pizza place to the west of QC's Diner. Pizzapants, Blue Ears, The Warrior, and possibly Purple Guy work there. The building cannot be entered during Chapter 1, as its employees are outside wearing ICE-E costumes and shouting slogans.

During Chapter 2, the building can be entered. In there are Pizzapants, an NPC resembling the Nice Cream Guy from Undertale, Ice Wolf and The Warrior. The Warrior is furiously smashing the pizza, Nice Cream Guy is watching him, amused, Ice Wolf is eating pizza (noting that he may be the only customer) and Pizzapants, when interacted with, tells Kris they must tell Asriel about how he got a "girlfriend" online. By Chapter 4, the building is closed though it is revealed Pizzapant's girlfriend is really just Bratty pranking him with a fake profile and coaxing Blue Ears to play along. During the rain Blue Ears texts Pizzapants as the girlfriend and reveals he left him a batch of cookies and is planning on meeting him at the festival.

Library

Main article: Library

The Library, whose misspelled sign returns from Undertale, is east of the central road and west of the School. It can be entered in Chapter 1 after school and has a different interior layout than Undertale's Library. Berdly works there after school, and patrons include Temmie, Jockington, and a striped bird who loves books and, blocking the stairs to the second floor, advises Kris to read the books upstairs. Kris can lick one of the books on the shelves; others include someone's diary (presumably Napstablook's based on the lack of capitals) and a bestseller by Gerson Boom. In the Teenz Corner display, an "anonymous yellow lizard" has left a positive review of Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2. Inside a locked door to a computer lab, a white dog is working at a computer, making a game and sometimes playing the maracas.

In Chapter 2, the computer lab becomes another Dark World. After exiting the Dark World, a small section of the 2nd floor becomes available with 2 bookcases being interactable. One holds a book on SOULs, and the other a book on how to take care of humans for monsters, which Toriel has taken from the library years prior. In Chapter 4, the Library can only be accessed if Berdly was unharmed after Chapter 2, where Kris and Susie can find the Wet-Nose Bandits reading books and can access a third book about the remains of monsters becoming dust on the second floor. Kris and Susie can also briefly interact with Berdly but he refuses to engage in conversation.

School

Main article: School
Map of school

Map of school

The School, east of the Library, seems to cater to the education of all the inhabitants of Hometown. It is split into two classes: one for younger children, taught by Toriel, and one for adolescents, taught by Alphys. Toriel brings Kris there for the school day after they exit her house.

After returning from the Dark World in Chapter 1, Kris and Susie find themselves in an unused classroom. It is littered with playing cards, toys, and games, the arrangement of which, starting from a locked door on the left, roughly corresponds with the path of the party's adventure within the Dark World. In the back of the classroom sits a stuffed animal the lightworld equivalent representing Seam in appearance, and on the closet there is a drawing of Gerson Boom made by his son Father Alvin. The unused classroom is in the northeast corner of the school, and another locked room is down the hall in the northwest corner.

In Chapter 2, Kris and Susie can use the closet they used in Chapter 1 to return to the Castle Town. In Chapter 4 they can access the closet again and find Temmie in the classroom next to the player's Egg collection.

Hospital

Main article: Hospital

The Hospital, west of the central road and east of the Police Station, can be entered in Chapter 1 after school. Inside, Red Big Mouth works as the receptionist. Kris can visit two patients, in rooms beyond the reception area. Rudy Holiday remains a patient in both Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. The other patient is The Warrior in Chapter 1, and an NPC resembling Shyren from Undertale in Chapter 2.

A sliding bead toy sits on a table in the corner of the Hospital's reception area. Examining it describes the beads as "march[ing] grimly along their set path". If the Weird Route was taken during Chapter 2, examining it reveals that a blue bead has been torn off from the tracks. In Chapter 4, Scarf Mouse can be found outside the Hospital reminiscing on the time they babysit Noelle and Kris. The player can also visit Rudy for a third time who confirms he will be attending the festival tomorrow despite his health. If the Weird Route was continued, Kris will visit a comatose Berdly alone and immediately turn up his heater, the player has the option to change the warm water bottle on his head and by doing so Berdly becomes more relaxed. If Berdly had his arm injured during Chapter 2 he will be conscious albeit still injured with him telling the two Noelle stopped by to deliver a flower and that he will still attend the festival.

Police station

The Police Station is west of the Hospital. It cannot be entered in Chapter 1. Inside, someone closes the blinds if the door is knocked on.

In Chapter 2, the police station can be entered. There is a desk in the center of the room, which initially has a key on it, a couch wrapping around the interior's southeastern corner, a wall of photos of the officers with a nearby pot of flowers, a desk with drawers below an open window and in the northwest, and a jail cell in the northeastern corner, containing the Wet-Nose Bandits (royal guard Dogs from Undertale), now being a group of local criminals. They reveal they attempted to break into the Holiday manor before they were attacked by a "merciless figure" leading to Undyne capturing them. There is a large board of papers north of the desk, which is to the right to a large dent in the building's wall.

If Kris talks about the Dark World with Undyne, she doesn't believe them, laughing and smashing her fists on her desks multiple times, to the point where the desk breaks in half, causing the key on the desk to launch off it, unlocking the jail cell, freeing the dogs, causing Undyne to chase after them. Napstablook also appears in the station, as another officer, playing the jailbreak alarm (which is actually their mixtape, playing an alteration of the track; "Pathetic House" from Undertale) after the dogs are freed. By Chapter 4, the station is closed indefinitely as Napstablook laments Undyne's missing status.

Blocked road

West of the police station, the road continues but is blocked with sawhorses and police caution tape with "NGAHHHHH!!!" written on it. In Chapter 2, Alphys can be found on this road with her bike being broken due to a crash related to Undyne. The tape remains in Chapter 4

Town Hall

The Town Hall is east of the central road. Inside a reception area, Politics Bear and an unnamed character can be found after school. Hand Receptionist, who works behind the desk, does not allow Kris to see the Mayor, whose offices are somewhere in the building. The reception area is decorated with a pine tree and a map of the town. In Chapter 2, the Purple Guy is also located here. In Chapter 4 the receptionist reveals the Mayor is busying prepping for the festival.

Church

Main article: Church

The Church is at the end of the central road, slightly southwest of Town Hall. It cannot be entered in Chapter 1 or Chapter 2 as characters are blocking the door (Father Alvin in Chapter 1 and Terry in Chapter 2). A dirt path leads further west to the Cemetery, while a grassy path leads further south to the underground Shelter. By Chapter 4 the Church hosts a sermon led by [[Alvin Boom]|Father Alvin]], with Toriel, Shyren, Noelle, and Mr Cattenheimer singing the choir. Afterward Kris and Susie use this time to investigate clues on the Shelter's code though Alvin sternly tells Kris to drop the subject. Eventually enough clues are gathered from Alphys, Rudy, and Noelle with Kris and Susie deciding to leave. As it begins to rain Toriel cancels choir practice and the Roaring Knight uses the opportunity to create two Dark fountains within the church. When the first is sealed Kris and Susie enter Alvin's office where they discover the remains and hammer of the late Gerson Boom. Susie decides to write a note dedictated to Alvin with words of encouragement to write his own stories and prepare to open a second fountain to confront the Knight. Upon the sealing of all the fountains, the church is left in a state of destruction and it is implied the Knight escapes after Kris leaves.

Cemetery

The Cemetery in Hometown, west of the Church, accommodates a Gerson Boom memorial bench, as well as four graves. These graves memorialize Gerson, Crystal, Muttler, and Shyra. The latter three are the names of monsters which were turned into Amalgamates in Undertale. In Chapter 2, Father Alvin can be found next to Gerson's grave, mourning the loss of his father. By Chapter 4, Snowdrake and his father can be found at the cemetary mourning the loss of their wife and mother.

Shelter

Main article: Shelter

A path to the south of the Church and Town Hall leads into the forest and ends in a dell containing a mound of grassy, overgrown earth with a large double door facing south. The door is locked, and appears rusty and crusted with clinging vines. Only Kris, Undyne, Mayor Carol, and seemingly the Roaring Knight have access to it.[1]The door possesses a secret electronic keypad that contains three entry fields and three symbols beside them. The symbols are a Pine Tree, a Police Badge, and the Deltarune. Below the doors, mus_smile (which otherwise appears when attempting to use the Cell Phone in the Dark World and in room_gaster in Undertale) can be heard at 15% speed.[2] This is the southernmost location on the Hometown map. At the room's northmost point the singing of birds (reused from Undertale) can be heard, but as Kris approaches the door the singing quickly fades away until the room goes silent.

In Chapter 2, Snowy and Monster Kid can initially be found next to this door, talking about rumors Kris has been spreading about it. Kris and Susie overhear this, and Susie violently kicks the locked door to scare Snowy and Monster Kid away. After the cutscene, Susie asks Kris if they're okay, and what is the deal with that place.

In Chapter 3, when playing the true game, it is revealed that Kris has a far darker connection to the Bunker, and in the game, they enter the bunker where they face many monsters as well as the Nightmare Creature. It is unknown if this is an accurate depiction of the REAL world Shelter. The Roaring Knight seemingly captures Undyne and escapes into the Shelter, with a Susie managing to crack open a panel revealing three passcode entry fields. Though by the time she leaves, Kris examines the Shelter door as it creaks open slightly enough for their entry.

In Chapter 4, it is revealed that one of the three secret codes is located within Dess Holiday's acoustic guitar. The first three letters are 122. It is heavily implied that the full number is 1225 as the number is a reference to Dess, Christmas, which is a "December Holiday". Furthermore, the same number had been utilized repeatedly in Cyber World in conjunction with Noelle, as well as in Chapter 3's Dark World to open a secret room in the gotcha machine room, as well as open the way to the Christmas Tree where Toriel was being hidden by Tenna.

Trivia

  • Pressing the cancel key "[CANCEL]" button when Kris gets out of bed causes them to leave their bed faster.
  • In Chapter 1, flushing the toilet in Toriel's home multiple times without leaving the bathroom leads to a string of interactions.
    • After flushing for the third time in a row, Toriel knocks on the door and asks "Kris...? Is everything... alright in there?"
    • After the sixth flush, she knocks again. "Kris, WHAT are you doing? You did not put a bath bomb in the toilet again, did you?"
    • After the ninth flush, she knocks for the third and final time. "Kris, if anything bad happens, you are paying for the plumbing bill."
  • The TVin Toriel's house was not plugged in during Chapter 1.[3] When checking the TV in Chapter 2, the narration states, "(It's the TV.) (Looks like it's plugged in, but it's dusty.)"
    • It would be revealed in Chapter 3, that it was Kris who had plugged it back in preparation for their Dark World's creation.[4]
  • Unlike the other rooms in the School, the unused classroom is at an isometric view instead of a 3/4ths view.
    • This is likely intended to clearly show the door leading into the closet.
  • The bead toy in the hospital's lobby has different text from Chapter 1 and 2:
    • Chapter 1 has "(It's one of those sliding bead toys that naturally spawns inside doctors' offices.) (The beads march grimly along their set path.)"
    • Chapter 2's narration states that "(The beads of the toy march on.)"
      • The Weird Route narrative states that "(It's a toy with beads on a track.) (One of the blue beads is broken and torn off.)"
        • If carried over to Chapter 4, Kris's title will be changed to "broken bead, torn off but still locked".
  • The narration for the second hospital sink in the right patient room differs if both are inspected. It states, "(Perhaps there was originally one tall sink that was cut in half to create both of them.)" This references the kitchen sink in Sans and Papyrus's house in Undertale.
  • The line when knocking on Sans's house's door, "the distant trousle of bones" references Papyrus's battle music in Undertale: Bonetrousle. This is also referenced again in Chapter 2.
  • ICE-E is a brand mascot returning from Undertale. Their name and likeness is also associated with several other commercial products in Hometown:
    • There is a nearly-full container of Ice-E's Cool Boys Body Spray "Spray for the Boys," Flamin' Hot Pizza Flavor in a cabinet in Toriel's bathroom.
    • In QC's Diner, Ice Wolf wears an ICE-E shirt and likes "ice-themed mascots."
    • A pain chart in The Warrior/Shyren's hospital room in the displays pain levels using pictures of ICE-E.
    • A blue spray-painted picture of ICE-E decorates Alphys's alleyway.
    • The Teenz Corner in the Library features a picture of ICE-E.
    • Kris once teased Noelle by telling her that "ICE-E was real and eats kids."
  • In the UNDERTALE 6th Anniversary stream, Toby Fox has various comments regarding Hometown during Chapter 1:
    • Toby describes the sequence of Kris and Toriel entering the car as them "walking under the car." He explains that he was unsure how to make it look like they were actually entering the car.[5]
    • He intentionally wanted Hometown to appear as if it was from Undertale, including the menus and the characters.[5]
      • This includes when selecting a choice when Susie asks for Kris's opinion. He states he had made two different menu systems.[5]
    • Toby thinks he made Susie's hair too dark colored, since when Susie first appeared in the game, he states that some players "thought she was like a worm or something."[5]
    • The cutscene of Susie menacing Kris is inspired by a real bully in Toby's life, who was familiar with his mother.[5]
    • The closet closing sequence was Toby's attempt at channeling the game, Secret of Evermore and "90s and 80s movies." Susie's and Kris's descent was inspired by the game, Brandish.[5]
    • Toby states that the drawing in the unused classroom is Father Alvin's drawing of his father, Gerson.[5]
    • Toby confirms that Toriel calls Kris if they do not call her first, and that she will not call if they use their Cell Phone to call her.[5]
  • While not explicitly confirmed to be a resident in Hometown, acquiring the Egg's will reveal the forgotten man in various out of viewer perspective locations. First being found within a car during a traffic jam in Chapter 2, and once more in a packed QC diner during the rain in Chapter 4.
  • The Library's interior changes between Chapter 1 and 2. The doorway to the Library's computer lab changes from a single door to double doors.
  • If Chapter 2 is loaded without using a Chapter 1 file, these are the defaults:
    • The floral scent in the trash can in Toriel's house isn't stronger.
    • Alphys does not express worry over Kris when they enter the classroom.
    • Noelle does not give Susie a lunchbox of chalk.
    • The Man is not present in the traffic jam near the Library.
    • Susie and Rudy are confused when Kris checks the hospital sink.
    • Kris did not talk to the Diner Shopkeeper in QC's Diner, as she does not ask if Kris liked the Hot Chocolate. She instead comments on Catti's family cheering, and asks Kris how they are doing.
    • Sans states that he never mentioned his brother to Kris.
    • Clam Guy is near the shoreline, and mentions that Onion is absent.
  • 'Sans's grocery store is the only area that features a "normal basket of fruit" that defies its physical appearance. It is "incredibly deep and holds all sorts of things."
  • In Chapter 2 the Wet-Nose Bandits imply they attempted mention to sneak into the Holiday Manor, describing it as a "big house" before they were attacked by a merciless figure forcing them to flee.
  • mus_smile that plays near the Shelter, can be heard within the Holiday Manor's basement. Seemingly serving as another hint of Carol's connection to the Shelter.
